MINIERA D’ORO DELLA GUIA
The Guia Gold Mine dates back to the 18th century and is a permanent museum that delves into the mountain. The tunnels allow visitors to retrace the path of the miners and bear witness to the gold mining activities carried out for years. The mine was closed in 1945, not due to a lack of gold but because of high labor costs.
The path, entirely flat and well-lit, is 750 meters long and takes about 45 minutes to complete. During the visit, you can see the hand-dug galleries carved over approximately 200 years. It is the only gold mine in Italy and Europe that is accessible to visitors, including those with disabilities. Inside, the temperature remains a constant 9°C with 97% humidity.
The mine is open from June to September (with a minimum of 3 adults and a guide required for safety reasons). For the rest of the year, visits are available by appointment for groups of at least 15 paying guests.
