Macugnaga is situated at the foot of the spectacular east face of the Monte Rosa (4.634 mt). In the summer it is an important tourist resort for excursions on the mountain and in winter for skiing. Between the 13th and the 15th century a Germanic people emigrated from the Vallis area to some Ossola Valleys and founded a new colony. This people had its own traditions, language and life style. Today it is still possible to observe the rest of Walser people. In “Borca di Macugnaga” there is the Walser museum with the typical objects of their everyday life. In Macugnaga you can still admire the old wooden houses, built in ancient times by the Walser population.

In “Guia di Macugnaga” a visit of the gold mine is absolutely worthy.
